The Chippewa Valley Home Builders Association's (CVHBA) Government Affairs Committee works to advocate for local issues that impact the building and remodeling industry. Each year we develop our Advocacy Agenda of issues that we are committed to addressing. We work with local municipalities (counties, cities, towns and villages) to support the need for additional housing in the Chippewa Valley as it aligns with the local comprehensive plans, advocate for affordable and reasonable housing friendly zoning and ordinances, and oppose impact fees.

Items we worked on in 2024

  • City of Eau Claire Inspections - We have continued to work with the City of Eau Claire to address concerns our builders and subcontractors have expressed with the department. The City of Eau Claire has implemented some recent changes and we are continuing to work closely to see how these changes impact our members.
  • City of Eau Claire New Zoning Code - The City of Eau Claire is undergoing an overheaul of their zoning code. CVHBA members are serving on the Technical Advisory Committee and the CVHBA is advocating for changes to the proposed code that will add on costs to building.
  • City of Altoona New Zoning Code - Altoona has also started a zoning code overhaul but has moved at a slower pace. The CVHBA has members serving on the Advisory Committee and is participating in feedback related to the code.
  • Town of Anson - There was a proposal in 2024 to change the land division ordinance to require a 20 acre minimum parcel, which would limit future development, land sales, and impact property owner rights. The CVHBA advocated against this. A moratorium on building was passed pending the conclusion of their new Comprehensive Plan and the CVHBA is actively involved in this process.
  • Chippewa County Inspections - CVHBA members reported some challenges working with the Chippewa County inspections department. Our leadership met with their department and had a great meeting discussing how to work together to address the concerns.
  • Lake Hallie Comprehensive Plan - CVHBA members attended meetings and provided input on the Comprehensive Plan components related to housing.
