Workforce Development
We are passionate about shaping the future of the construction industry. Through our workforce development efforts, we actively connect local youth with opportunities in the skilled trades, fostering interest in rewarding careers that build communities.
Connecting Youth to the Skilled Trades
- Connecting Classrooms to Careers: High School Outreach
- Our partnerships with local high schools are at the heart of our workforce development efforts. Through these collaborations, we bring the skilled trades to life for students by connecting them with industry professionals from our membership. Members generously volunteer their time to speak directly with students, sharing real-world experiences and insights into careers in construction. From classroom presentations to hands-on demonstrations, these interactions help students understand the wide range of opportunities available in the skilled trades.
- We also actively participate in career fairs, where our members showcase their expertise and provide students with a closer look at the tools, technology, and creativity involved in their work. These events not only spark interest but also create valuable connections between students and potential future employers.
- Inspiring Young Builders: Elementary Outreach
- Using the children’s book The House That She Built, we engage elementary students with a story that highlights the diverse roles women play in the building industry. Our members visit classrooms to read the book, sparking curiosity and conversations about construction careers. These sessions often include fun, hands-on activities, such as designing a house on paper or building small structures with simple materials, allowing students to explore creativity and teamwork. By introducing the concept of construction and skilled trades at an early age, we plant seeds of inspiration and awareness that can grow into future interests and careers. It's never too early to show children that they, too, can help build the world around them!

- Building Futures with the Boys & Girls Club
- Our partnership with the Boys & Girls Club is a cornerstone of our mission to introduce youth to the skilled trades in meaningful and engaging ways. Together, we’ve created programs that empower students of all ages to explore construction and gain hands-on experience.
- For high schoolers, we’ve hosted week-long construction camps that dive into the basics of building, teamwork, and career opportunities in the trades. These immersive experiences provide a deeper understanding of the industry while giving students the confidence to pursue their interests.
- With younger students, such as 4th and 5th graders, we’ve facilitated projects like building picnic tables and crafting bird and butterfly houses. These activities not only teach practical skills but also instill a sense of accomplishment as students see the tangible results of their work.
- Through this partnership, we’re able to connect kids with the joy of creating, the value of teamwork, and the potential for exciting futures in construction.
